Gaansari Commemorates Wright Brothers First Flight With 100 Limited Edition Scorcher Model
DAYTON, OH June 11, 2004 -- Cycles Gaansari announced today a limited production run of 100 special edition Gaansari Scorcher fixed-gear bicycles to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Orville and Wilbur Wrights' historic first flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina on December 17, 1903.
The Gaansari Scorcher is a fixed-gear road bike inspired by Orville Wright's racing exploits in Dayton, Ohio in the 1880s and early 1890s. According to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum website, "The brothers purchased bicycles in the spring of 1892. Wilbur preferred long country rides, while Orville enjoyed racing and considered himself a "scorcher" on the track. Surprisingly, no photographs exist of Wilbur or Orville on or with a bicycle."
The Gaansari Scorcher frame is made in the USA from Reynolds 725 heat-treated oversized cromoly steel, with a hand built steel fork in matching British Racing Green. Sizes are 50, 54, 56, 58, 62cm. Customers can choose between a Stock Spec and Premium Spec Scorcher. Complete bike prices start at $1,600US.
According to Cycles Gaansari owner Gary Boulanger, the Gaansari Scorcher is designed for long-reach brakes to be ridden with chubby 700c tires, on fast urban commutes or club rides. There will be single eyelets front and rear for fenders.
"The Gaansari Scorcher is the closest bicycle design to the original Wright bicycles from the 1890s," Boulanger said. "The 100th Anniversary of flight and the growing demand for fixed-gear road bikes prompted us to develop the Scorcher for 100 bicycle/aviation enthusiasts. It's up to our customers to ride the Scorcher or store it for posterity's sake."
